The Celluloid Sorceress presents Housekeeping (1987) on 35mm

Thu 27 Apr 2017 @ 19:30 · Events

HousekeepingHousekeeping (1987) was Bill Forsyth’s first American film and is widely considered to be his finest work.

Adapted from Marilynne Robinson’s novel, this story of two young sisters who go to live in Idaho with their unconventional and unpredictable aunt got a limited release and remains difficult to see.

Starring a “spellbinding” Christine Lahti in what Vincent Canby described as “the performance of her film career”, this rare screening from 35mm is a treat for any cinema connoisseur.

Housekeeping was the second of four collaborations with editor Michael Ellis a.c.e. We are delighted that Michael will be joining host Nikki Williams to discuss Housekeeping, his work with Bill Forsyth and other aspects of his 50 year career.

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.
