Kennington Bioscope Special: Vitagraph 9.5

Wed 8 Jun 2016 @ 19:30 · Events

Captain BloodA Bioscope Special event presented by Kevin Brownlow and Andrew Erish, featuring Vitagraph 9.5 films from Kevin’s personal collection.

Captain BloodThe Vitagraph output of the 1920s has been completely overlooked because most of the films have been lost. Historian Andrew Erish, who did such a marvellous job with his book on the Selig Company, is next going to tackle Vitagraph. This evening we are going to share as many of the 9.5mm Vitagraph releases as we can with him – invariably termed by Pathescope as ‘A Warner Production’, since WB had taken over the company. They include a 1924 version of The Magnificent Ambersons, a spectacular version of Captain Blood and Victor McLaglen’s first American film, The Beloved Brute. Vitagraph was largely British-run and seems to have been a very pleasant studio to work for. Come and see if their work deserves to be revived!

Dave Locke will be operating an enhanced projection system for a brighter viewing experience.

We will show as many films as possible so it will be long evening!
