An old cinema ticketThe Cinema Museum continues its fundraising campaign to secure the Museum’s future with a new season of film screenings and live talks, presented by key film industry figures and film historians.

The Spring Season will begin in March – here’s a quick rundown of the events. Click the links for full descriptions of the first events; for the rest there will be more details to follow. Ticket and pricing details are below.

  • Thursday 1 March An evening with 1960s/70s horror director Norman J. Warren.
  • Saturday 3 March An evening with film composer Debbie Wiseman.
  • Saturday 31 March An evening with Carol Cleveland of Monty Python.
  • Thursday 12 April Marty Feldman remembered by his biographer Robert Ross.
  • Saturday 14 April An evening with Sylvia Syms.
  • Sunday 15 April @ 16.00 The Titanic Centenary - Luke McKernan presents films and extracts on the anniversary of the Titanic sinking.
  • Saturday 28 April An evening with Vera Day, glamorous East End star of cult films Quatermass 2 and The Woman-Eater.
  • Monday 30 April Cryer on Arbuckle - Barry Cryer presents an affectionate portrait of director/comedian Roscoe Arbuckle.
  • Thursday 3 May Alastair Sim, by his biographer Mark Simpson – the life and work of this great British eccentric explored.
  • Saturday 12 May Robinson on Robinson – best known as author of the definitive Chaplin biography, David Robinson talks about his career.
  • Friday 18 May “In the room above the pub”: folk & film – archive footage + a quintessential folk club, with singer Pete Morton and folklore collector Doc Rowe. Floor singers ring Pete to book a spot (07974 214987).
  • Thursday 24 May The art of the short film – innovative filmmakers of the 1930s-50s, including George Pal and Richard Massingham.
  • Saturday 26 May Jack the Ripper on film – Professor Richard Dyer traces how the Ripper has been portrayed in terms of class in British films.
  • Thursday 31 May Coming soon: the history of British trailers - Keith M. Johnston traces the history of the “coming attraction”.
  • Saturday 2 June An evening with Barbara Windsor – join our alternative jubilee celebration with the Queen of the Carry Ons!
  • Thursday 14 June A Woman Redeemed (1927) – an exciting silent programme includes this British spy thriller starring Joan Lockton.
  • Thursday 28 June Hollywood censorship & the Hays Code - Professor Mike Wayne explores the fascinating story of Hollywood’s self-censorship.
  • Saturday 30 June “Cinema songbook”: in celebration of music and film! – songs and clip from films outside the musicals genre, with live music.

  • Extracts from classic film and TV
  • Discussion with industry experts/film historians
  • Refreshments & an opportunity to socialise
