Join us for a fascinating evening as Keith M. Johnston explores the 100-year history of the ‘coming attraction’ film trailer and its place within the British film industry, screening a selection of the best trailers in the Cinema Museum archives, and bringing to light some of the unsung heroes of British trailer production.
From initial experiments in glass slides and animated graphics to synchronised sound, colour and widescreen, the film trailer offers a unique perspective on British film history, including its genres, stars, studios, and technologies.
Dr Keith M. Johnston is a lecturer in Film & Television Studies at the University of East Anglia, and is the author of Coming Soon: Film Trailers and the Selling of Hollywood Technology (2009).
Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start, and the event is expected to end at 22.30. Refreshments will be available.
