The UK Buster Keaton Society. Quarterly meeting of the society dedicated to the appreciation of the silent comedian.
The afternoon will include a screening of Sidewalks of New York (1931). Buster plays Harmon, a wealthy slum landlord. When he visits one of his tenements, he gets caught up in a brawl between two gangs of youngsters – and falls for one of the boy’s sister. He decides to open a gymnasium for the street boys in order to impress her, but comes up against a local gangster in the process. This was Keaton’s most commercially successful film.
The programme will also include a selection of Keaton shorts and other goodies.
The meeting runs from 4pm to 7pm.
