Fringe! Queer Arts & Film Festival joins forces with Women & Cocaine – a Classic Hollywood film series presented by Caroline Cassin at the Cinema Museum – to celebrate the incomparable Mae West, one of the earliest camp icons and queer allies.
West was a force of nature: an actor, singer, playwright, and screenwriter whose career spanned eight decades and every medium of entertainment. She crafted stories with dynamic female characters who challenged social norms and redefined femininity, and in doing so, she took a sledgehammer to outdated views on women and sexuality.
In She Done Him Wrong, West plays diamond-draped, lusty Lady Lou, a saloon singer juggling a long list of lovers that includes criminals, politicians, and a young Cary Grant. Banned in several countries upon release, it remains the shortest film ever nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.
The film will be preceded by a short introduction, and followed by a raffle.
Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.
The Cinema’s bookshop will be open, along with a cafe and bar from 6:30pm.

Fringe! Queer Film and Arts Fest is an annual London-based festival celebrating LGBTIQA+ culture through film, art, and events. It’s a volunteer-run, not-for-profit festival known for its diverse program, including feature films, experimental art, workshops, and parties.
