Women and Cocaine presents Cleopatra (1934)

Sat 28 Jan 2023 @ 19:30 · Events

Cleopatra (1934) “Let’s drink first. Perhaps pretty words will follow.” DeMille at his most DeMille, Cleopatra is Lavish and Ludicrous!

Claudette Colbert sizzles as the devious Egyptian queen Cleopatra, who struggles to maintain her tenuous hold on her kingdom, wooing her lovers Julius Caesar, and Marc Antony, while manipulating the ongoing power struggle between the two Romans for her own nefarious ends.

The master showman Cecil B. DeMille reshapes the oft-told story into a modernistic costume spectacle, with lavish musical production numbers and his trademark large-scale set pieces, as well as a tongue-in-cheek attitude toward sexuality.

The film will be preceded by a short introduction and followed by a raffle!

“My father warned me about men & booze, but he never mentioned a word about women & cocaine” – Tallulah Bankhead.
