The latest Kennington Noir season starts with a low budget classic, directed by Edgar G Ulmer, with Tom Neal, Ann Savage and Claudia Drake.

Al Roberts (Tom Neal), a New York nightclub pianist, hitchhikes to Hollywood to meet his girlfriend but the gambler he’s riding with unexpectedly dies en route. Al takes the man’s identity and carries on driving. He picks up a hitchhiker, Vera (Ann Savage), but she knows the truth and proceeds to blackmail Al. Now watch on. Low budget gem Detour is perhaps the ultimate film noir nightmare, all in 67 bleak minutes.
