Fringe! screening of Zero Patience (1993)

Tue 28 Jan 2020 @ 19:30 · Events

Zero Patience Fringe! Queer Film & Arts Fest presents Zero Patience (1993), directed by John Greyson, as part of their Queer Musicality season.

There never was, and never will be again, a musical like Zero Patience. Worlds collide as nineteenth century explorer Sir Richard Burton, joins forces with the ghost of ‘Patient Zero’, to refute the urban legend of how HIV was introduced to North America. Offering a subversive and sassy take on the AIDS epidemic, this film once lauded for its “spunk, humor, enthusiasm and wit”, remains a jewel in the New Queer Cinema crown. Come in with an open heart and mind, ready for underwater ballet numbers and songs that will make you laugh, whilst challenging your preconceptions.

Before the feature, they will be screening Greyson’s short The Making Of Monsters (1990). This is a behind the scenes documentary of a made for TV musical, about the homophobic murder of Kenneth Zeller, directed by Bertolt Brecht who now takes the form of a fish. We are delight to show this controversial and little seen short by John Greyson in all its outlandish and idiosyncratic glory.

Screening as part of BFI Musicals! The Greatest Show on Screen, a UK-wide film season supported by National Lottery, BFI Film Audience Network and ICO. bfimusicals.co.uk
