Wed 20 Jan 2016 @ 19:30 · Events

The RatThe Kennington Bioscope is a regular cinema event featuring live accompaniment to silent films that takes place at the Cinema Museum.

The main feature is The Rat (1925), directed by Graham Cutts and produced by Michael Balcon for Gainsborough Pictures. It is based on the play by Ivor Novello and Constance Collier, and stars Novello, Mae Marsh, Isabel Jeans and Robert Scholtz. We will be screening a 35mm print.

Isabel Jeans plays a bored courtesan who persuades her lover (Scholtz) to take her to a low-life Parisian night-spot, where she meets The Rat (Novello), a career criminal who lives with his girlfriend (Marsh), in a slum in the city. This popular romantic melodrama spawned two sequels, both of which starred Novello and Jeans.

A programme of silent shorts precedes the main film. Anyone interested in silent film should visit the website for more info.
