John GilbertThe Kennington Bioscope is a regular cinema event featuring live accompaniment to silent films that takes place at the Cinema Museum.

The main feature is Man, Woman and Sin (1927), produced by Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg for MGM, and directed by Monta Bell and John Gilbert. Monta Bell co-wrote the script (based on a novel by English poet John Masefield) and John Gilbert starts with stage actress Jeanne Eagels, making a rare screen appearance.

Man, Woman and Sin posterGilbert plays Albert Whitcomb, a young man devoted to his mother, who becomes a cub reporter and falls in love with the newspaper’s society editor, played by Eagels, not knowing that she is the boss’s mistress.

The film is introduced by Kevin Brownlow, and has live musical accompaniment.
