Woman in GoldThe Cinema Museum presents a screening of Woman in Gold (2015) with an introduction and Q&A from its screenwriter Alexi Kaye Campbell.

Woman in Gold, directed by Simon Curtis, is based on the true story of the late Maria Altmann (Helen Mirren), an elderly Jewish refugee living in Los Angeles, who with her young lawyer, Randy Schoenberg (Ryan Reynolds), took the Austria government to court to reclaim Gustav Klimt’s iconic painting of her aunt, Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I, which the Nazis stole from her relatives in Vienna just prior to World War II.

Alexi Kaye Campbell was born in Athens to a Greek father and British mother. After many years as an actor, including at the Royal Shakespeare Company, Alexi turned to writing. His award-winning play The Pride was first produced at the Royal Court Theatre in 2008, and was followed by three more plays. He has just completed his fifth play, a commission for the National Theatre. Woman in Gold is his first screenplay.

Doors open at 18.30, for a 19.30 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licenced cafe/bar.
