Raleigh Hall, Brixton, London

Our first home was Raleigh Hall at Brixton, a tumbledown council owned building which although in poor condition had a great deal of character.

The cramped and chaotic main room of Raleigh Hall which contained the film still collection, the posters and the library. The room was also used for film screenings with two professional 35mm cinema projectors with carbon arcs. Did you notice Martin Humphries, right foreground, dealing with a telephone enquiry?

The entrance hall and rickety wooden staircase up to our floors.

Some of the uniform collection. The letters JFD on the cap stands for James F. Donald, an Aberdeen cinema company. The brown uniforms are also from there.

The tiny rooms were crammed with our collection. The doors (centre left) are from the Eros Cinema, Piccadilly Circus from where, on it's demolition we got a length of decorative stair bannister with movie motifs. In the centre right foreground are brass cinema ashtrays from a period when many people smoked in the cinema.
