Echoes Festival presents Dario Barozzi and Jose Zalba-Smith: ‘The Argentine Guitar’

Thu 22 Nov 2018 @ 19:30 · Events

Echoes Festival is the UK’s first and only annual festival showcasing the classical music of Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

Echoes Festival was launched in 2016 as the new flagship project of ILAMS (the Iberian and Latin American Music Society), in collaboration with the Cervantes Institute. Now in its third year, the Festival has brought unique classical Iberican programming to some of London’s most prestigious venues, whilst providing a platform to some of the most authentic and illustrious voices within Latin classical music today.

Darío Barozzi is an artist who defies categorisation, his music existing happily at the intersection between the classical and the popular, moving seamlessly between art music, tango, folk and free improvisation. At the forefront of the newest generation of Argentine guitarists, Barozzi’s interpretations and original compositions combine fresh contemporaneity with a profound, native knowledge of Argentine musical traditions and a compelling brand of refined swing.

Jose Zalba-SmithMaking his UK debut, Barozzi is joined by special guest, pre-eminent Cuban flautist, José Zalba-Smith with an eclectic programme exploring the many facets of the Argentine guitar, including a rare opportunity to hear an especially authentic rendition of Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du tango.
