May 2017 · News

LA 92On Monday 8th May, the Bertha DocHouse, London’s documentary cinema, are screening LA 92 (2017), the new documentary from Oscar winning directors Dan Lindsay & TJ Martin. On 29th April 1992, four police officers were acquitted of brutalising black motorist Rodney King, despite being caught on camera. The shocking judgement sparked several days of protests, violence and looting in the area, referred to now as the ‘1992 Los Angeles Riots’. Making use of rare archive footage to immerse viewer in that tumultuous period, LA 92 looks at the events leading up to the riots with a fresh perspective, highlighting how this pivotal moment still reverberates some 25 years on. At this one-off screening we will be joined by the film’s producer, two-time Oscar winner Simon Chinn (Man on Wire (2008)), and Tottenham MP David Lammy for a post-film discussion.
