Wed 31 Aug 2016 @ 19:00 · Events

Bette Bourne: It Goes With the ShoesReShape and the Cinema Museum present the VITO Project, a series of free monthly screenings bringing generations of LGBTs together to provide an alternative space to mix, watch films and share ideas.

This month’s film is Bette Bourne: It Goes with the Shoes (2013), a documentary directed by Jeremy Jeffs and Mark Ravenhill.

Gay rights icon, Bette Bourne, and a group of friends, performers and activists took on the establishment with high heels and lipstick, playing a vital role in cracking open of society in the 70’s & 80’s. With camp wit and outrageous humour the film covers the first meetings of the Gay Liberation Front, the first mass gay protests in Europe, life in a gay drag commune and a European road trip with drag superstars, The Bloolips.

The screening will be followed by an open discussion with Bette Bourne, founder of Bloolips and star of the documentary, and Paul Shaw, long-time member of Bloolips. Neil Bartlett will be our host for the evening.

The project is endorsed by BFI Flare, 56 Dean St, Gay’s the Word, ACT UP London, Gay Mates, a Change of Scene, the Cara Trust, I-Base, UK-CAB, Naz Project & Positively UK.

Doors open at 18.00, for a 19.00 start.

Refreshments will be available in our licensed cafe/bar.

TICKETS & PRICING

This is a free event but we need your donations on the night to ensure the continuation of the VITO project. All donations go towards covering the costs associated with running the event (film licences, heating and lighting, rental of the premises, printing, promotion etc). Donations are VITO’s only source of funding and we need to raise an average of £5 per person just to cover our costs. So PLEASE DIG DEEP and give us a paper donation if you are able to.
