Wed 4 May 2016 @ 19:30 · Events

Terje VigenThe Kennington Bioscope is a regular cinema event featuring live accompaniment to silent films that takes place at the Cinema Museum.

The main feature is Terje Vigen (1927), also known as A Man There Was, which was directed by Victor Sjöström, who also stars and co-wrote the film, which is based on a poem by Henrik Ibsen. This is often regarded as the start of the golden age of Swedish film.

Terje Vigen (Sjöström), is a sailor who is captured by an English captain in 1809 and imprisoned. On release five years later, he finds that his family have died, and becomes a recluse. One night he rushes to help a British yacht in distress in a storm, but realising the skipper is the man who ruined his life.

It is also planned to show Bucking Broadway (1917), an early John Ford western starring Harry Carey and Molly Malone, although this is yet to be confirmed.
