Laura La Plante, Reginald Denny and Hedda HopperThe Kennington Bioscope is a regular cinema event featuring live accompaniment to silent films that takes place at the Cinema Museum.

The main feature is a 16 mm print of Skinner’s Dress Suit (1926) from Kevin Brownlow’s collection. This silent comedy is directed by William A. Seiter for Universal, and based on the novel of the same name by Henry Irving Dodge. It stars Reginald Denny and Laura La Plante, as well as Hedda Hopper.

Honey Skinner (La Plante) is proud of her successful husband (Denny). He tells her he’s going to ask for a raise, and expecting him to get it, she spends the money on on a new dress suit for him and a new outfit for her so they can fit in at a swanky party. They are a success at the party, and she is embraced by the smart set. In the meantime, he loses his job, but is too embarrassed to tell her. The tailor wants payment on the suit, and Honey is still spending the salary he doesn’t have.

A programme of silent shorts precedes the main film.
