Screening of Satantango (35mm)– POSTPONED – NEW DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED

Sat 15 Nov 2014 @ 15:30 · Events

SatantangoSet in a run-down village in Hungary towards the end of the Communist era, Satantango (1994) is an epic film directed by Bela Tarr, shot in black and white and lasting over 7 hours. It shows the hopes and fears of many of the villagers through multiple points of view, as they await a large cash payment for the closure of the village’s collective farm, and worry about the consequences of the scheming, smooth-talking Irimias, long thought dead, returning home. Will their money be safe from him, and can they trust each other?

We are pleased to be showing a 35mm print of the film Susan Sontag described as “Devastating, enthralling for every minute of its seven hours. I’d be glad to see it every year for the rest of my life.”

As this film is 7 hours long, the screening will start at 15.30.

Refreshments will be available in our licenced cafe/bar.
