QuadropheniaFifty years on from the Mods vs. Rockers riots on the beaches of southern England, this evening offers an exploration of the cinematic depictions of the Mod movement. From Soho down to Brighton, we’ll play them all, from documentaries to dance films, with pride of place given to an extensive interview with Franc Roddam, the ‘ace face’ director of the ultimate Mod movie, Quadrophenia (1979).

Franc Roddam has enjoyed success in the various fields of film and television directing, television production and publishing. His films include Quadrophenia (1979), The Lords of Discipline (1983), The Bride (1985), and Aria (1987). For television, he co-directed the ground-breaking documentary series The Family (1974), directed the TV film Dummy (1977), and created both Auf Wiedersehen, Pet (1983–2004) and Masterchef (2005-). He founded and chairs the Ziji Publishing company, and is a sponsor of the London Film School, where he was a student.

Stephen Glynn is Associate Research Fellow at De Montfort University, UK. His writings on rock movies range from the particular, A Hard Day’s Night (2004), to the general, The British Pop Music Film (2013).

Doors open at 19.00 for a 19.30 start.
