Spock dying behind glass window, watched by KirkPopularly perceived as the “best” of the original movies, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (1982) certainly sees a major rebrand of the idea of Star Trek, and the thrills and spills of this box office success are legion.

Diane Keaton and Liam Neeson

The negotiations that led to Leonard Nimoy returning in the next instalment opened the door to him directing The Good Mother (1988), starring Diane Keaton and Liam Neeson, a film which explores attitudes towards children’s exposure to adult sexuality, and challenges society’s growing reliance upon courts to settle complex private and ethical matters.

This is a chance to re-evaluate a rarely seen film that was a prestige project but not a commercial success, unlike his massively successful Three Men and a Baby (1987) which had been the biggest box office hit of that year.
