Nine disturbed individuals each believe they are alone on earth after an event they can’t explain. When they each discover a white balloon carrying a message of hope they set out on an epic journey to find other survivors.

But the destination isn’t all it seems.

The only way forward is to confront the demons hiding in the shadows around them. But is it all in their head? Or someone else’s?

Welcome to the Majority director Russell Owen

Writer/Director Russell Owen: Welcome To The Majority originally existed as a short film script I’d written several years before entitled ‘The Last Four Minutes’, essentially a film set in a post-apocalyptic world. I loved the idea and the setting but I wanted my characters to have more depth and mystery about them. The script was redeveloped into a feature and the setting changed from bleak post war environment to purgatory – an equally bleak, empty setting, where characters need to survive, but more importantly discover themselves.

Welcome to the Majority scene - two men sat at a table in the snowI wanted a constant sense of mystery and foreboding, and for the audience to feel thrown into a story and the characters without an introduction, so that they suddenly become lost like the characters and have to slowly learn about their environment.

This being my first feature as a director I didn’t want a low budget to hinder my ideas or drive the project. I wanted to give the project the scale the subject matter demanded, so we shot a good portion on location in the Snowdonia National Park in North Wales which gave us the perfect, wintery backdrop and atmosphere, including some pretty severe weather.

And, incidentally, the Cinema Museum was another of the locations for the shoot!

Doors open at 18.30 for a 19.30 start, and the event is expected to end at 22.30. Refreshments will be available.
